Gail Gedan Spencer and Carol Gedan started Shrinking Sisters in a South Beach Diet online forum, then moved it to the Six Week Body Makeover forum, then ... oh, you get the picture.
They finally decided to call it a day with the online diet forums and just start a blog, which they aimlessly did in 2006.
Then, ADD-addled sisters as they are, the blog died but fired up again in 2008 after Gail got laid off from her newspaper journalism job.
Laura, who used to work with Gail at the South Florida Sun Sentinel, joined Shrinking Sisters in 2010. By day, Gail and Laura were features copy editors, but also by day, they created the Sun Sentinel weight-loss blog The Skinny, which almost immediately became one of the most popular blogs at the paper and earned a second place award for best blog from the Florida Society of Newspaper Editors in 2008.

Gail is a freelance writer and editor, Carol is a secretary at American Heritage School in Plantation, FL, and Laura has reinvented herself as a teacher.
Carol and Laura contribute every now and then; Gail's the one with all the time on her hands.
