When you're not a dieter, starting on a months-long commitment to the NutriSystem plan is daunting -- even when you're psyched to do it. As evidenced by the photo of my charming and food-devoted son Zane, two giant boxes of food stuffs for the month have been delivered. I have been reviewing the material. I'm learning what to add in, what to eat when. Everything seems very sensible, handy, healthy. But I'm so nervous about starting! Strange concerns keep popping up:
I don't want to eat the wrong foods at the wrong times and come up short with nothing to eat the last week.
I'm afraid my young kids or hungry husband are going to dig into the freezer supply and leave me with no desserts. (Priorities, people!)
I'm afraid I'll take one bite of the breakfast food and go straight for a frozen waffle.
Despite the worries and nervousness invading my psyche, I'm also very excited. I have never tried NutriSystem. People say it's easy and tastes good. I would looooove to drop some weight as summer approaches. At 47, I'm not looking to get into bikini shape, just ANY shape other than round would suffice.
I've decided to kick off the program on Monday, April 11. That gives me the weekend to head off with my kids on a Girl Scout camping trip to a Seaquarium. (Theme parks and healthy eating are two trajectories that never intersect so why force the issue?)
So, here goes a weekend of upclose encounters with burgers, fries and other dangerous Americana (maybe a rare blue cotton candy sighting?). Then, it's back to a new beginning on Monday. Wish me luck!
